The University of Kansas' Department of Student Housing was a lovely work environment. I had my own desk in an air-conditioned basement, a flexible lunch break, and friendly bosses. I was hired as the Student Programmer in February, and assigned the responsibility of revamping the site in May. I first fleshed out goals, things the old site did wrong, and mandatories with the office's marketing director. I then created a mockup design and worked with the office's graphic designer to refine it. Then, after heavily customizing an ElegantThemes WordPress Theme, we deployed it to a test server and scoured and perfected every page until we launched on August's first week.
The site features a few extras, such as an interactive room tour that I created in Flash Catalyst using the pictures and design style from a graphic design intern that had recently graduated. The staff page is meant to be a dynamic heirarchy of the department staff. Each sub category has a slideshow and static featured blocks generated by custom fields.
