Getting Married in the Woods
Jeff's been my most consistent collaborator for a decade, so when he announced his engagement, I was stoked. This would be an excellent website.
As Jeff and I sank into the couch hashing old arguments ("the font is too big" "your font is illegible"), everyone around was too nervous to provide any critical feedback. We laughed. We ripped up everything and put it back together, sparring with the history of a half dozen projects.
If at First You Don't Succeed, Iterate
On my first pass, I had no context besides an address and some names. There were some text concepts that didn't quite pan out legibly, and would've looked tough on mobile.
Then the original Save the Date designs, led by Ryan Sondregger, came with a 70s camp vibe with bubble letters and gratuitous shadows.

The Real Deal
But then the design changed over. The palette was simplified. A singular font was chosen for display and body. Illustrations were added. This posed a new challenge to the website - the fun hallmarks of the proper invitations, these cute illustrations - could land in unpredictable corners depending on the viewport. I made a pattern and added them to the gutter, making it less opaque on mobile.
You can't pick a favorite iteration, but I love where the site ended.
