After Ad Astra's success, new Prez Marcus Tetwiler and new Outreach Director Morgan Said requested a redesign of their current logo. The deadline: 48 hours, in order to make press time for new student orientation guide. We started at 4:30 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon, had a brief brainstorm and then toured the Union to look at class banners and Jayhawk memorabilia.

came away that night with some rules:
  • Mono-color. This would be printed in a wide variety of places, at a wide variety of sizes, and in black and white or color. Color would be changed.
  • Iconographic. If color wouldn't matter, then the text would have to be accompanied by a proper symbol.
  • Identity-abiding. Since this is a student group, the University branding guidelines would have to be incorporated  This meant no Jayhawk (possible, but too much red tape to make it worthwhile), no KU with the swoosh, Gill Sans or Palatino or Trajan type, and, of course,  the signature color palette.
  • University-specific. This is a local, on-campus org after all.

I managed a piss-poor draft on Thursday night and a stronger set on Friday night. The contestants were refined in a 3-hour perfectionist session with Morgan and Marcus on Saturday afternoon. The final logo was voted unanimously (notably, the session's first unanimous vote) that night.
